Virtual Geographic Information System (VGIS)

Technician repairing a computer server.

The Challenge

Managing a large oilfield with thousands of geographically dispersed assets presented significant operational challenges. Engineering teams relied on multiple disconnected systems, maps, drawings, and documents, making it difficult to obtain a unified view of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. This fragmented approach slowed decision-making, reduced operational visibility, and increased engineering risks.

The Solution

Designed and implemented an enterprise Virtual Geographic Information System (VGIS) that digitally represents wells, production facilities, pipelines, warehouses, and supporting infrastructure within a centralized 3D environment. The platform integrates GIS, engineering information, and operational data, enabling users to navigate assets visually while accessing real-time engineering and business information from a single interface.

The Value

  •   Unified digital      representation of the entire oilfield
  • Improved      engineering collaboration and operational visibility
  • Faster asset      identification and maintenance planning
  • Reduced      engineering risks through visual decision support
  • Established the      foundation for Digital Twin initiatives
